Working within
an eclectic mix of genres and styles, Ian is proud to
perform with some of the finest musicians and ensembles
in the world across the musical spectrum, in the pit, on
the stage and in the studio. Born in
Edinburgh, Ian Cape starting his musical
life banging a drum from the Early Learning Centre,
followed not long after by tapping the pews in his local
church. After years of pestering his long-suffering
parents, he began studying drum kit aged 9, playing with
several local rock bands shortly thereafter.
Percussion
lessons with Pam Dow culminated in a bursary to study at
the Royal Academy of Music, where Ian began his chosen
professional career as a freelance musician, playing
percussion and drum kit.
From
June 2011, Ian has held the percussion chair at Les
Miserablés, the world's longest running musical,
following a successful tour with the newly
re-orchestrated 25th Anniversary Production.
His
working relationships include:
Orchestras
throughout the UK (London Symphony, London
Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Hallé, BBC
Symphony and Philharmonic, City of Birmingham

include playing aeroplane engines in Bologna, tom-toms
(instead of timps) in Damascus, and the vacuum cleaner,
dressed as a budding housewife.
Ian
uses sticks and in-ear monitors.
